Note The purpose of this page is to propose a specific shade structure so that you can tell me what's wrong with it. Speaking up now will save HOURS of work in the hot sun and, probably, hundreds of dollars. So don't be shy.
This shelter is about 19.5 feet wide and 40 feet long with a center pole every 10 feet. The poles are 1" EMT conduit. The center poles are 10' long and the side legs are 7' 11" long. The top is peaked and covered with heavy duty silver tarp which is held in place every 18" by bungie ball ties.
Every leg is secured by taping it to a piece of rebar and by having a rebar 4' out from the leg with a guy line attached to it. All exposed rebar is protected by caps and all guy lines will have flags (I'd like to put glow sticks on the rebar and guy lines every night but that might be another $100).
The 60% black shade cloth will wrap around the structure with sections removed for "doors". The top and sides will be secured but the bottom will be left to flap in the breeze. The shade cloth is attached directly to the walls, not draped over the guy lines as in Tony's proposal; this is simply because it's cheaper.
The whole structure, as specified, is about $750. The major drivers are the cost of the conduit, the tarp and the shade cloth. It is entirely possible that these items can be gotten at a discount; by all means, please suggest alternatives! Alternatively we can save money by making it smaller or by not covering it with as much shade cloth.
