Sony Computer Entertainment America                                                                  Foster City, CA

SWE Manager, Platform Group, Tools & Technology                                                    2005 – Present

Managed the successful completion of several special projects involved in the launch of the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) including special events, game technology projects and developer equipment.

·        Developed project budget plan for entire Platform Group with a total budget of $5,000,000.

·        Managed the Developer Support Team which provides support for development equipment for Sony game, music and audio teams throughout California for developers totaling 200.

·        Set up the equipment for the 2006 GDC Keynote speech in which the PS3 was introduced to the US in front of a live audience of 1200.

·        Managed the conference in which the top Sony game developers exchanged techniques for PS3 development. Handled all aspects of the conference including the budget of $150,000.

·        Coordinated the efforts of more than twenty engineers to release nine game technology projects to be used in PS3 launch titles worth c. $35,000,000.

·        Developed standards and practices to apply to the development of game tools throughout  Tools and Technology including developers totaling 25.

·        Led the design of two pieces of client/server technology which allow for data gathering and control of a PS3 from a PC with resulting game team penetration of c. 70%.

Software Engineering Manager  2002 – 2004

Presided over and contributed to more than 6 product releases for a company producing numerous high quality storage and network caching hardware and software solutions. Consistently under budget.

·        Coordinated the efforts of 30 people, including project plan, task lists, presentations, meetings and scheduling, to release two versions of the DataFabric Manager product. These two successful releases increased the capabilities of DFM by 100%.

·        Developed India hiring plan which created an Indian software development team and saved  $500,000 the first year and annually $4,000,000.

·        Led team to complete product replacement. New product has only 20% as much code and costs only 15% as much to maintain, saving company annually $3,000,000.

OmniSky, Inc.                                                                                        Palo Alto/San Francisco, CA

Director of Product Engineering/Vice President                                                                  2000 –2001

 

Responsible for development of all OmniSky wireless handheld products including OmniSky 2.0, the premier wireless portal product. Managed all internal/external engineering resources.

·        Managed two major and several minor wireless handheld product releases resulting in 30,000 customers and a total monthly revenue of $1,000,000.

·        Managed 5 external engineering organizations with 30 engineers located around the country and expanded the internal team from 2 to 10 with a budget of $3M.

·        Renegotiated out-of-control software development. Without damaging development, reduced highest contract rates by 40% and overall expenditures by $900,000.

Palm, Inc.                                                                                                                  Santa Clara, CA

Manager, Wireless Applications Engineering                                                                      1998 – 2000

 

Led Palm VII wireless server and client software development, including Web Clipping, iMessenger and Instant Activation which were the basis for the 150,000 customer PalmNet service offering.

·        Managed a team of 8-12 software engineers and designers through five major software releases which were ultimately incorporated into Palm devices totaling 500,000.

·        Managed the development of the client and server software for the Palm. The Palm VII was a very successful project, shipping more than 200,000 units and generating monthly service revenue of as much as $2,000,000.

·        Managed development of wireless software for Palm VIIx, Palm OS 3.5, Mobile Internet Kit, Palm OS 4.0 and the Palm Web Clipping Servers which continued to run until 2005.
